Earthquake An earthquake is a series of seismic waves that shake the ground and buildings
Focus The focus is the place within the crust where the rock breaks and the earthquake begins
Epicentre The epicentre is on the surface directly above the focus. It's where the most severe shocks occur
Aftershocks They are the smaller shocks which can often cause further damage to already weakened buildings
Seismograph Seismographs are used to measure the shocks caused by earthquakes
Richter scale A Richter scale is used to measure the force of the earthquake
Fault line The fault line is a crack in the earth's surface
Seismic waves Seismic waves are the vibrations that are sent out by the earthquake and which cause buildings to collapse
Tsunami Big waves on the surface that travel far with great speed
