Tell me a little about yourself.
I graduated from Marist with a degree in journalism and started my career in PR and marketing. While I enjoyed writing press releases and designing client presentations, my most recent job exposed me to the analytical side of the business and I’m looking forward to making a career change.
Why did you leave your last job?
Manipulating financial data and learning about what was going on on Wall Street made me realize that I wanted to change careers and work for a larger company where I could have a ton of exposure to different people and career paths.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I want to secure a finance or accounting position with an international firm. Ideally, I would like to work for a large company like Avis so that I can start at the bottom and take advantage of all the opportunities and exposure that I can, especially since I’m switching careers.
What are your weaknesses? #1
In my last position, I wasn’t able to fully develop my analytical skills because everything was more focused on writing. In the future, I’m looking for on the job experience that will build upon what I’ve learned in my MBA program.
What are your weaknesses? #2
In the past, I’ve had some problems delegating tasks during group work because I always feel like I can do it better myself. But I’ve taken several management courses and done extensive group work for school projects so I feel like I’ve improved a lot in the last 2 years.
How would others describe you?
I think they would describe me as a social butterfly who can talk to anybody and get along with a diverse group of people. I think they would also say that I’m driven and sort of an intense personality who always does what it takes to get things done.
What can you offer us that another person can’t?
I think I’m the best person for the job because I’m a well-rounded candidate. Most people interning will not have a writing degree and a business degree. I think being able to communicate effectively and work in an analytical position is a valuable contribution to any company.
Tell me what you learned at Olia.
Working at Olia was an excellent experience in working with different people in a collaborative environment. Because it was such a small company, my responsibilities changed day by day and I was constantly being exposed to different business functions.
Tell me what you learned at First Choice.
My biggest take away from First Choice was that going above and beyond always pays off. When I graduated college and wanted to expand my duties beyond administrative work, I offered to redesign the company’s marketing materials on my own time. My bosses were so impressed with my work that they agreed to give me a raise and a new position.
Tell me what you learned at Crescendo Communications.
Working at Crescendo exposed me to financial analysis and encouraged me to go back to school for a more challenging career. Without that experience, I never would have discovered the analytical side of my brain.
Tell me about a time you had to convince someone to do something.
When I was working at First Choice, I desperately wanted to expand my responsibilities to include tasks that would look good on my resume and build on what I had learned in undergrad. To convince my bosses, I created new client presentations for the company’s new solar division. They were so impressed with my work that they promoted me me and gave me a raise.
Give me an example of a difficult situation and how you handled it.
I joined Crescendo Communications during the company’s busy season and was immediately assigned the responsibility of writing an end of quarter press release for one of our biggest clients. At that point, I had no idea how to write a financial press release or how to dissect financial statements, especially under tight deadline. I handled it by asking my boss for some basic guidance on what topics needed to be covered and used my lunch hour to teach myself some basic financial theory. Although it was daunting at first, I learned to break down complicated tasks into simple components and keep at them til I mastered them.
How would you deal with conflict in the work place?
Well, I’m always careful to keep a cool head under stress and respect other people’s point of view. I find that most of the time, conflict arises from misunderstandings and taking the time to listen and ask questions is usually all it takes to resolve things.
What do you know about Avis? (Basic)
I know Avis Budget is one of the most widely recognized brands in the global vehicle rental industry, especially in North America, Australia, and New Zealand.
What do you know about Avis (Values)?
I also know that you pride yourselves on your commitment to excellent service and employing a diverse group of people who will contribute to Avis’s policy of open communication and community responsibility.
What do you know about Avis (Charity)?
I also think that the Make A Wish foundation is one of the best charities out there and would hope that there would be some opportunity to work with them directly since I did charity work throughout undergrad and loved the experience.
Tell me about the work project you have liked best.
My favorite work project was at Olia. Because it was such a small company, I had the opportunity to have direct input on all of my boss’s business strategy. For example, I was chosen to create the marketing materials and brochures for the company’s first NYC trade show. My boss gave me complete creative control and eventually chose me over 2 other interns to be her assistant at the week long event. Being part of an international trade show was one of the best experiences I’ve had because I got to meet people from all over the world and really feel like I was part of something larger than myself.
How would you describe an ideal manager?
I think an ideal manager would be one that has an open door policy that goes both ways. I would welcome someone who could give me constructive criticism while also being open to my questions and concerns. I enjoy working in a collaborative, open environment.
How would your degree help you with this job?
Although my MBA is in accounting, I believe that the analytical and quantitative skills I have learned can be applied to franchise operations. My communications degree and past work experience has also allowed me to hone my writing and communication skills. I look forward to working in an environment that allows me to use both sides of my brain!

I want this job because after working at small companies, I’ve decided that I want to work for a large company with more diverse opportunities and a global reach. Avis Budget is a fit for me because it is a well-established company that is dedicated to staying competitive and evolving into the future.

For example, I just saw a press release announcing Avis’s new features via OpenLane. I think that allowing the customization of vehicle purchase orders on an individual basis is a major step into the future because fast service and good pricing, rather than the product itself, is what usually differentiates one company from another.
